Anyone who starts crochet knows that one day they have to make a quintessential granny square blanket. We’re going to teach you a variation of the classic stitch that is much easier because it’s crocheted row by row. You won’t have to join squares, and the effect is similar. An easy and cute pattern. It works up quickly and you can make it with a heavy or lightweight wool, or even cotton for spring. You can combine a ton of colors or make it monochromatic. Imagine all the possibilities!

Let’s start crocheting! Make a chain, always with a multiple of 18 chains plus 6 extra. For this example we used Meriwool in two colors.

Row 1: 3 double crochet (dc) into the 6th chain. *[Skip 2 chains and dc 3 into the same chain] Repeat from [ to ] 1 more time.

Skip 5 chains and dc 3 into the 6th chain. Repeat from [ to ] 1 more time.

Skip 2 chains. In the next chain, dc 3 times, chain 3, and dc 3 times*.

Repeat from * to * to the end of the row.

Row 2: change color, chain 5. dc 3 into the next hole formed by the chains from the row below. *[dc 3 into the next hole formed by the chains from the row below]. Repeat from [ to ] 2 more times. Skip the next hole and repeat from [ to ] two more times in the next hole formed by the chains from the row below, dc 3, chain 3, and dc 3*.

Repeat from * to * to the end of the row.

Repeat row 2 until you reach the desired length.

Now let your imagination fly using as many colors as you like and make the blanket as big as you need. Remember to use the hashtag #weareknitters on social media.
